Christopher Moneymaker is an American poker player who won the main event at the 2003 World Series of Poker (WSOP). His win was a revolutionary step in poker as he was the first player ever to become a World Champion by qualifying for the event through an online poker site; now coined the “Moneymaker Effect”. At the time, Moneymaker was an accountant who entered the event via a $39 tournament at the PokerStars online room and went on to win the $2.5 million first prize. With instant poker superstar status Moneymaker went on to exceed $2,900,000 in live tournament winnings by the end of 2008, $2,532,041 of which have come from the WSOP.
