Poker Odds
From Poker Wiki
Knowing the particular odds is important when you play any form of card game. When you play in a casino the odds are usually against the house, whereas poker odds are slightly different. Poker comes in various forms and most are played with a number of players placing bets against each others' hands. There are many elements involved in the game of poker such as forced bets, bluffing and the player’s right to fold his hand at any given time.
Poker odds are realistically based on whether the card or cards you require will be dealt at the end of each betting round. This is down to probability more than anything else and if you are in the middle of a game you do not really need to know the mathematical equation for the chances of your card being drawn.
For example, if you have three of a kind showing and you need the fourth, you know there is only one card in the deck which can help you. If there are forty cards left in the deck, then your odds of being dealt that card are worked out by how many players there are and how many cards are left.
The game of poker can move at quite a pace sometimes and unless you have a calculator by your side, you need to concentrate on the laws of probability. It is a game of chance, after all, as you never know which card is going to be dealt next.
Poker odds really do depend on which variation of the game you are playing and how much nerve you have. The best poker players will know the odds to a certain extent but not all will use them, as such. It all comes down to the individual player and the strategy of game play they use.
