    Hello RTR and Friends,

I am just coming back to the online poker scene since Black Friday landed on my head. At the time I had moved from Columbia, MO down to Redington Shores, FL to get away from all the snow and lack of work. I had gotten a job working six days a week building sea walls. The hard labor left me with no energy to spend at the tables. Plus, I was just getting back on my feet and didn't have the resources to get a much needed upgrade to a laptop that I had dropped.

I ended up doing commercial fishing for awhile. After my second trip offshore, 14 days each working up to sixteen, eighteen hours a day. I got me a new computer and some books to take with me offshore. During our time going out or coming in would have left me some great time to study. So I booted up my new comp to only find that Black Friday had landed two weeks before. About the day after I went offshore. Go figure, talk about a bad beat.

I ended up being in an accident where a drunk driver struck me from behind while walking. Left me pretty messed up. I tried to find a decent online site, but nothing took my fancy. However, part of that was the fact that between the bruising and bleeding on the brain that I had suffered, the meds also made it a bit impossible to play well.

I finally am back. Still not physically up to par, but am at least getting time at the tables. I am hoping that since I can't go to work, that I can learn enough to at least contribute to the household. We'll see how the cards fold.

    Some quick facts:
    31 years old.
    Male.
Have 2 soon to be step children.
Have my first and only child, a son on the way.

    Isaac

Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let's take a step back Sharon.
    3 grandchildren already.....that's awesome.

Either you are a yummy grand-mummy or you mistyped the 46 and meant 76 and you are actually a groovy poker granny!

Either way, welcome to the forum and RTR! Enjoy your time and feel free to share your poker and baby tips with us all!

    Best wishes

    Cool I'm here.

Hmm, I see people are typing longer stories here than at most forums. I'll try to keep mine short, but will fail.

I'm... I'm the DevilYouKnow. Because I only need to be better than one person to turn a profit, and the DevilYouKnow is better than the DevilYouDont.

I always won when playing poker as a youth (except when drunk), but never played seriously. Besides, 5 card draw is that easy.

In '97 a buddy took me too a card room. After discussing I really wasn't comfortable gambling, and admitting that I was nonetheless willing to throw away $30 for a Friday night's entertainment, this great old buddy of mine explained how $30 was plenty for the low stakes.

$30 is NOT enough to play $3/$6.

I had never even heard of Hold'Em before. For 2 hours I'm freaking out everytime it's my action. At least my guts (or head) was right... I folded folded folded. I remember the first time I saw the turn... because the first bet was $6 and it was $12 by the time it got to me! That's almost half my roll!

I don't know how much my buddy spent... he re-bought a couple times, and I played my last couple hours without him. (I can now explain his losing simply by stating that my friend is a craps player at heart.)

After 6 hours at a full $3/$6 at Ocean's Eleven I turned my $30 into $86. As one player kibitized: "that's not much."

"But it's a lot more than I started with".

Again, that was 1997. I studied Hold'Em for three years starting about 1999, rounding it out with extensive free games at pokerroom.com. (They had the best limit stats -- I can't believe those pages are still there).

I bought in to UB for $25, played some limit and lost it. Repeat the loss again next week. And the next week... however, the third $25 stuck.

I never deposited again, except for moving to new sites: Party Poker, Paradise Poker, and PokerStars.

Now, I did make a weakness clear: I groomed myself as a limit player. And it took me far too long to realize that NL was the way to go. But, something did go in my favor: I'm very strong at NL tournaments. Yet, banking a big score once every 3 months -- although profitable -- is more variance than I need to live off of, so, I swear I shall improve my multi-tabling NL ring grinding.

Lastly, Black Friday hit me hard. I honestly don't know how I'm supposed to move forward in life. I'm fortunate to have something of a casino in range, but on New Years Eve (err... Day), at four in the morning, there were only 6 of us at the $1/$2, and all of us were sober regulars. I've thought about selling my house and emmigrating, but firstly, is that really what a U.S. player has to do? Secondly, my house isn't worth much on the market and I don't have any foreign friends or family. Thirdly, I'm a lazy nut case that I don't see being approved for citizenship.

So, I have put a little money on ACR. I'll try a test withdrawl around Christmas-time, perhaps.

By the way, I messed up linking my ACR account to RTR, but I sent Johnny a message about it, and I'll give it some more time to see if he answer before I email rtr support, I guess.

    Greetings.

    Hey DYK

Welcome to the site. Great story! I love to hear about how people got involved in online Poker. For me it was because a friend invited me to a home game for about $50. So i thought i better go online and learn...next thing i was addicted. The home game came and went and I kept playing. That was 9 years ago...

Anyway, please enjoy the forum and feel free to share more stories with us as time goes on

    Best wishes
