Brad Pitt to Star in New Poker Movie

For those of you who have been waiting for a decent poker movie outside of “Rounders,” your dream might finally come true when the movie “Cogan’s Trade” hits the big screen.

Headlining Cogan’s Trade is long-time movie star Brad Pitt, who is going to play Cogan – a mob enforcer sent to investigate poker games that got robbed under the mob’s protection.  Since this is a relatively new project, few details are known in regards to the other actors.  However, Casey Affleck and Sam Rockwell are rumored to be joining the movie that’s already making poker news.  Acclaimed director Andrew Dominik will oversee the filming; Dominik has also directed “The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford” and “Chopper.”

Cogan’s Trade is based on a novel by George V. Higgins that’s just as much about the robbery mystery as it is about the poker action. Unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any online poker angle in the novel or movie, but it should still be fun to see the high stakes poker game in Cogan’s Trade anyways.

Aside from this film, there is also news that Victory Poker player Antonio Esfandiari will star in a movie with Bruce Willis and rapper 50 Cent.  There are literally no details on this film – unless you’re a Hollywood insider – but it will be fun to see Esfandiari on the big screen with these two stars.  It would be even more fun if he throws a plug in for Victory Poker’s 33% rakeback offer while he’s on screen!

Of course, we’re also waiting on the Leonardo DiCarpio movie that centers on the internet poker industry.  News of this project first broke in 2009, but there hasn’t been a whole lot said about it since then.  In any case, it will be extremely interesting to see how this movie plays out when it is released.
