Event #4 -Scott Calcagno shakes off Two “Terrible” Years to win $1,650 NL Terminator Cash game pro Scott Calcagno hadn’t had the greatest results over the past two years. “I’ve had a pretty rough last couple of years playing poker,” Calcagno said. “Luckily I have seen a lot of my friends be very successful which has kept me motivated. But my results really have been terrible the last two years.” The Aussie’s fortunes definitely changed at the 2014 WSOP Asia-Pacific since he recently won the Event #4 $1,650 NL Terminator. 888 poker signs Flamboyant November Niner Bruno Politano

Posted on by RTR Dave

888poker just seem to keep bucking trends in online poker left and right. First, their player traffic increased during the second quarter of 2014, despite the overall industry experiencing an 8% traffic decrease. Now, they’ve signed colorful November Niner Bruno Politano to an ambassadorship deal at a time when PokerStars and Ultimate Poker dropped a combined seven pros. Of course, it’s not hard to see why 888 would break this trend for Politano, given that he has the biggest personality of any Main Event player left. Let’s discuss Politano’s personality more in depth along with what 888 hope that he …

Posted on by RTR Dave

Every year there are plenty of interesting stories in the November Nine. And the 2014 November Nine is certainly no different because each player has their own intriguing tale, from Mark Newhouse making back-to-back final tables to established pro Martin Jacobson being in the mix. But there are three players who we’ll especially be cheering for to win when November 10th arrives, and you can read why below. 1. William Pappaconstantinou (a.k.a. Billy Pappas) Who knew that foosball was a big deal, complete with big tournaments across the world? Billy Pappas showed us the light after making the 2014 WSOP …

2014 November Niner Felix Stephensen Still Learning Hold’em Tournaments

Posted on by RTR Dave

When the 2014 November Nine meets again, Felix Stephensen certainly won’t be the most inexperienced poker player there. He’s been an online poker pro for the past four years, specializing in Pot-Limit Omaha cash games. But Stephensen definitely lacks experience in what the WSOP Main Event is all about – No-Limit Hold’em and live tournament play. Before this year’s Main Event, the Norwegian had rarely played in Hold’em tournaments. This can be seen from the fact that he previously had just two career tourney cashes and $21,118 in winnings. Considering that Stephensen will start the 2014 WSOP Main Event final …

World Foosball Champ Billy Pappas looking for 2014 WSOP Title

Posted on by RTR Dave

2014 November Niner William Pappaconstantinou (a.k.a. Billy Pappas) is used to winning….just not in poker. The 29-year-old is best known for his impressive foosball credentials, which include five US championships. Pappas has done so well, in fact, that many consider him one of the greatest foosball players of all time. Now he’s on the cusp of greatness in a totally different game after making this year’s November Nine. Pappas just completed a foosball tournament in Europe when he decided to fly to Vegas for the 2014 WSOP Main Event. What ensued was a run that nobody could have predicted as …

Two-Time November Niner Mark Newhouse looking for Redemption

Posted on by RTR Dave

Every year there are plenty of great stories to be found on the WSOP Main Event final table. And the 2014 November Nine is no exception, especially when you consider that several different nationalities are looking to win the first ME title for their country. But if there’s one story that overshadows them all, it is definitely Mark Newhouse. Last summer Newhouse ran through a field of 6,352 players to reach the 2013 Main Event final table with 7,350,000 chips, ranking him eighth to start. Given his chip disadvantage, he wasn’t exactly a favorite to win the tournament. However, Newhouse …

No Clear Favorite in 2014 WSOP November Nine

Posted on by RTR Dave

As you may have already heard, the 2014 WSOP Main Event final table is set as the original 6,683-player starting field have been whittled down to just nine players. The 2014 November Nine will reconvene on Nov. 10th to compete for a $10 million first-place prize. One notable thing that stands out about the field is how many different countries are represented, with Brazil, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden and USA all featuring a November Niner. Another aspect that comes to attention is how even the chip counts are. The difference between first and last place in the standings right now …

Did Dan Colman’s Comments Help Poker?

Posted on by RTR Dave

There were a lot of interesting stories to come out of the 2014 WSOP Big One for One Drop, including Daniel Negreanu’s $8.3 million cash making him the all-time tournament winnings leader, celebutante Rick Salomon finishing fourth place, and the little-known Dan Colman winning this event along with $15.3 million. And the latter added an even bigger story that continues being discussed today. As many know, Colman walked out of the Rio after refusing to do any interviews. Speculation was rampant in the first few hours after the 24-year-old’s bizarre and ungrateful behavior. The way he was acting, you’d have …

Event #61 – Matt Grapenthien overcomes pressure to win Stud Championship The name Matt Grapenthien doesn’t really set off any alarms in the poker community. And he put his skills on display while winning the 2014 WSOP $10k Seven Card Stud Championship along with $268,473. Event #58 – Jared Jaffe “In the Zone,” wins First Bracelet It’s never easy to predict victory in a poker tournament, especially one with 1,475 runners. But going into the final two days of the $1,500 NL Hold’em Mixed Max event, Jared Jaffe just had a feeling that it was his time to shine. “I felt like there were a bunch of spots in the past where I was right there and could have gotten (a bracelet) and I didn’t,” he said. “I kind of felt like I was in the zone all day yesterday and today. It just felt …
