Omaze is a fundraising platform that democratises auctions by giving everyone the chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime prize, all whilst raising awareness and funds to support incredible charities and causes all around the world.
So how did Omaze get its start?
“Omaze started when our Co-Founders, Matt and Ryan, were coming home from an exclusive charity fundraising auction. The top bid of $15,000 won court side tickets to watch a basketball game with their idol, Magic Johnson.
Two things occurred to them: why should these amazing experiences only go to the highest bidder? And how could such an epic prize only raise $15,000 for charity? Imagine if we made these opportunities available online and gave everyone the chance to win. It would mean many more people could participate, and a lot more money would be raised for charity.
Soon, the idea took on a life of its own and before long, Omaze was born.”
What a clever idea they had! So many people have won cash, cars, houses, and even amazing experiences with their celebrity idols since Omaze started. Best of all you are helping charities with their fundraising!
So how does it work?
In a nutshell, you buy entries for a raffle. Obviously, your end game is to win this prize you are buying the entries for and help the charities reach their fundraising goal. You can buy entries for as little as $10 which will get you 15 entries and you can go as high as 320 entries for $150. Their most popular one is $25 for 40 entries.
Past Charities and Prizes
The prizes vary depending on which country you live in. There is an Omaze US, Omaze CA and an Omaze UK each with a mix of different prizes.
Let’s take a look at just a few of the incredible prizes that have been won in the past and the charities that have benefited.
- Be Robert Pattison’s VIP at the Premiere of Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Batman in aid of GO Campaign.
- Wildlife Safari through India and visit the Taj Mahal and support Wildlife SOS.
- A £3,500.000 Wimbledon house in support of Great Ormond Street Hospital. The raffle raised £500,000 for the charity.
- Cotswolds house worth over £2,500.000 that raised £500,000 towards The Prince’s Trust.
This is just a tiny fraction of the prizes that have been given out and charities that have been helped.
How much do charities get?
One of the best things about Omaze is the money that they give to charity! This was the key driving force in starting Omaze to begin with.
For each draw, there is a charity selected that will benefit. The charities receive 80% of the “Net proceeds” of the draw. Net proceeds are any profits left over after deducting the cost of the prizes and marketing.
If, for any reason, there are not enough entries sold to cover the cost of the prizes and marketing, there is a minimum donation that the charity will receive from Omaze.
How are the prizes drawn?
When you buy entries, a unique Entry Code is generated and securely logged in the draw database. The more entries you buy, the more times it is logged. This means that if you buy 25 entries then your Entry code will be logged 25 times which increases the chance of it being drawn for a prize.
Early bird Prizes – Omaze UK
Omaze UK also has something they call “Early Bird Prizes”. This means that when you enter early, not only could you win the main prize you could also win one of the early bird prizes too!
There is normally more than one early bird prize for each draw so the earlier the enter the more chances you have to win.
The early bird prize could be Cash, Cars or even a hamper brimming with expensive and luxury goods. And don’t worry, if you win an Early Bird prize you can still win the Grand Prize!
How do I know if I’ve won?
Once the draw has taken place all winners are contacted by email and telephone. For the Early Bird Prize, Omaze will announce the winning Entry Code on their “Our Winners” page and on social media. Omaze will also contact the winner directly by email.
