After witnessing fantastic 2011 WSOP* Main Event runs by Sam Holden and Anton Makiievskyi, 888Poker rushed to sign these rising young stars before anybody else could. And both players certainly represented 888poker well after they earned strong final table finishes.
Sam Holden, who is from Canterbury of the UK, gave a valiant effort after making it onto the 2011 Main Event final table with the smallest poker chip stack. After three hours of surviving among the bigger stacks, the 22-year-old busted out in 9th place when his A-J hand was beaten by Ben Lamb’s A-K combo. For his deep tournament run, Holden received a well-deserved $782,115 payout, and the title of “Last Brit Standing.”
21-year-old Anton Makiievskyi is another young gun who made Vegas 2011 Main Event final table, and he earned a big $1,010,015 payout after finishing in 8th place. The Ukrainian went all-in with K-9, and lost to eventual champion Pius Heinz who had pocket 9’s. Makiievskyi was trying to become the youngest player ever to win this prestigious tournament, but he can’t be too disappointed with a $1 million cash, and being known as the only person from Ukraine to make the final table.
