Belgian Gaming Commission blacklists 888 Poker

Important news for rakeback poker players using 888 Poker or PokerStars in Begium:

On Thursday 9th February the Belgian Gaming Commission issued a published release of its first official online poker operator blacklist – a list which included 888 Poker. This means that, at this point, 888 Poker is not allowed to accept new players from Belgium; the acquisition channel has been closed, and no new registrations to join 888 Poker from Belgium will be permitted.

The Belgian Gaming Commission (BGC) has expressed that as of this year only fully licensed operators will have permission to offer online gaming in the country, and that the BGC will be actively looking to prevent any operators who are not licensed from accessing players in Belgium.

Poker Stars however has been officially granted a Casino de Namur A+ license by Belgium, and is one of the first online poker sites to have been given the license. The chairman of the Belgian Gaming Commission, Etienne Marique, has commented:

“This is an important step forward for the regulation of online gambling. Not only is the legal framework offering the possibility for operators to offer their online games of chance, but from an economical point of view gambling operators are given opportunities in Belgium.”

In response to the news, PokerStars’ Head of Business Development, Guy Templer, has stated:

“PokerStars is proud to be among the first fully-licensed operators in Belgium. We are delighted to be able to offer a locally licensed product to Belgian players through our partnership with Circus Groupe. This furthers our goal to obtain licences in all newly-regulated markets and we look forward to working with the Circus Groupe and Gaming Board.”
