Hero Security Guard Tackles Man in Armed Robbery at Poker Club

On the 17th of January, a man was arrested for attempted robbery at Legends Poker Room in Houston, Texas at around 1:30am. The suspect announced to the 45 to 50 people at the poker club that he was going to rob the place, while armed with an AR-15 rifle.

21-year old security guard Trelynn Robinson, known as “Tek” to regulars, managed to prevent the almost deadly attack by tackling the gunman, who is now in custody.

Robison says that the suspect entered the building in the 9200 block of Richmond and began shouting “give me the money” with the rifle pointed towards the security guard.

Police said that there were 10 to 15 shots heard before Robinson lunged towards him and fought him and wrestled for the gun, it started to go off but no one was injured.

"The reason why the bullets are in the wall and not in anybody is because I lunged towards him the moment he pointed the gun towards me," Security guard, Treylnn Robinson told Fox News Digital. "The guy came directly and pointed straight towards me. I was the first person he pointed that gun to."

Robinson threw the gunman inside the trophy case with the glass breaking and disarming the man. That's when poker players in the game room helped and pinned down the suspect.

With the help from others it allowed Robinson to put handcuffs on him, arrest the man himself until the police arrived.

Robinson was not seriously hurt during the incident, although he suffered a dislocated shoulder.

Robinson went home, popped his shoulder back into place and returned to work the same day.

Despite the ordeal, Robinson explained that he forgives the suspect, stating that “he is probably going through some s****, that caused him to do that”.

He added, “People call me hero but I aint no hero, I did my job I signed up for".

It wasn't long until the poker community showed their support, a dealer at the Legends Poker Room had set up a GoFundMe page to raise money in honour of his bravery.

"What Tek did was the bravest thing I have ever seen in my life. Without a doubt; this man saved my life, and the lives of every person who was in the room at the time”. The Dealer stated on the page".

The donations currently sit at $2,610 of the $40,000 goal when this article was published.

Some of the local players have expressed their worries regarding Legends Poker Room’s safety on social media. They believe more safety measures need to be put in place at the newly built poker room, a brave security may not always be enough.
