Guest blog part 5: David La Ronde, EPO 2009 winner

Final Table
Did not sleep much as I was wading through YouTube coverage of EPT London 2008 and Michael Tureniec. I had singled him and John Eames as the most dangerous players on the final table. I had clashed on Day 2 with Michael and won two nice size pots from him, one with a ridiculous bluff and the other by inducing him to call with a draw that missed. After I looked at the EPT coverage I was convinced that it would be very difficult to get involved in large pots with him as he is very capable of shoving very light, so careful methodical abc poker was all that was required when in pots with him. I was sure he would knock himself out if you let him become over confident. John Eames on the other hand is not that well known on the circuit, but in my opinion was without doubt a very tough opponent. He was very methodical and precise and did not make any mistakes. I’m sure he will win big very soon.

We arrived at Dusk Till Dawn at 1.30 for slap up steak dinner; to be honest the thought of stuffing a slab of steak down was not as appetising as it should have been. I noticed several players had hardly touched their food and this was interspersed by frequent trips to the gents. In fact I caught a player chucking up, not happy at the prospect of being the short stack, much like entering the coliseum in Rome to be devoured by the Lions.
