PokerStars signs Ville Wahlbeck

It’s fitting that PokerStars would choose the time of year when the WSOP* is running to sign Ville Wahlbeck.  After all, Wahlbeck managed to play poker just as well as anyone else last June when he finished runner-up to Jeffrey Lisandro in the WSOP* Player of the Year race.  Now Wahlbeck will get to join the likes of Daniel Negreanu, Peter Eastgate, Chris Moneymaker, and Barry Greenstein as a PokerStars pro.  He’ll also get to take advantage of the incredible VIP deals at PokerStars too!

Wahlbeck first caught the attention of the world’s largest online poker room when he won the $10,000 Mixed Game event, which earned him $492,384.  Not quite finished yet, Wahlbeck managed to place sixth in the $50,000 H.O.R.S.E. tournament to earn another $200,000.  He also added a second place finish in the $10,000 World Championship 2-7 Lowball tournament ($170,000), and a third place finish in the $10,000 World Championship Seven Card Stud tournament ($100,000).  That’s a total of four final poker tables Wahlbeck managed to play on for those of you who are counting.

As if the huge tournament finishes weren’t enough, Walhbeck went on to win honors for how well he played poker games last year at the Nordic Poker Awards.  The first award he won was the “Best Live Tournament Player” while the second trophy he took home was for the “Best Performance.”

The 34 year-old Helsinki, Finland native will begin his career as a Stars pro at the PokerStars Baltic Festival on June 16th.  Last year, Wahlbeck played his poker hands just right and won the High Roller poker tournament at the Baltic Festival.  Ville will also have an opportunity to take advantage of the incredible online poker deals at PokerStars, which includes as much as 80% return for VIP players!
