PokerStars Macau Tournament breaks Records

Not yet satisfied with already being the world’s largest internet poker site and offering the best online poker deals anywhere, PokerStars has taken to dominating the casino poker scene as well.  And their PokerStars Asian Pacific Poker Tour has helped them grab a significant share of the Asian poker playing population.

At no time has this been more obvious than when the Macau Millions poker tournament broke a record for the largest tourney on Asian soil earlier this week.  A total of 741 players bought into the Macau Millions Main Event, which broke the previous Asian tournament record of 679 players held by a PokerStars Filipino Poker Tour event at the Metro Card Club.

The 741 players who sat down at the Macau Millions poker tables created a $1,467,180 prize pool where the winner will take home around $275,000.  After one day of the Main Event, there are only 54 players left who will play poker for the $275k top prize; Jimmy “The King” Ng currently leads all players with 355,000 poker chips – 24,000 more than Lei Lond Ng who’s in second with 321,000 chips.

But even with the chip lead and a great nickname to match, Jimmy Ng will still have an uphill climb to win the holdem poker tourney since almost half of the players left are either Team PokerStars members or winners of previous PokerStars events.

Regardless of what happens in the end though, it’s clear that PokerStars APPT is quickly becoming one of the world’s best texas poker organizations.  If you’d like to win a prize package to APPT events and play for huge prize pools like the one at Macau Millions, you should download the poker software for PokerStars.  They have satellites and qualifiers running for APPT tournaments on a regular basis so the opportunities are certainly there.
