Gus Hansen is dominating Online Poker

As good as Full Tilt Poker pro Gus Hansen has been over the duration of his career, he has had some serious struggles during the last few years. At one point in 2010, Hansen was down over $7.7 million at Full Tilt; it’s a good thing that he had Full Tilt’s 27% rakeback deals to pay him back some of the losses!

In any case, it looks like Hansen’s struggles are a thing of the past because he is currently dominating the online poker scene. Since the start of October, Hansen has earned over $5 million at the poker tables. He is also leading all players in 2011 with $2 million in profits; the next closest player is fellow Full Tilt pro Patrik Antonius at $1 million.

So what’s been the difference for Hansen during this turnaround? Some might say that he’s simply outplayed certain opponents such as Dan “jungleman12” Cates and David Benefield. Cates, who was last year’s unofficial internet poker champion after earning $5 million in profits, has lost $891,000 to Hansen, while Benefield has lost around $477,000 to Hansen.

Aside from doing well against Cates and Benefield, who are both very accomplished players, Hansen seems to have found a niche for himself in the $5,00/$1,000 Pot-Limit Omaha poker games seeing as how he’s won $2 million here.

Hansen’s winning hasn’t been restricted to the cyber felt because he’s also had some successful casino poker performances lately too. Hansen cashed for $1 million after winning the Full Tilt Poker Million IX, which was featured on the UK’s Sky Sports channel. This win goes nicely along with Hansen’s already impressive tournament resume that includes three WPT titles, a WSOP bracelet, an Aussie Millions title, and over $9.1 million in poker tournament winnings.

In addition to all of the recent and past poker success, Hansen has also been romantically linked to Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki. Looks like Hansen is on a major upswing as of late!
